The Society for Amateur Scientists helps ordinary people do extraordinary science.

Since its founding in 1994, SAS has been the only non-profit research and education organization dedicated to helping people enrich their lives by following their passion to take part in scientific adventures of all kinds. We educate, advocate, kibitz and build networks of like-minded people to further the ethical pursuit of science and scientific research.

SAS is not an organization of amateurs. Rather, we are an organization for amateurs. We are a unique consortium of thousands of professional and amateur scientists who seek to advance science and science literacy on all fronts.

The Maker Faire happens in The Bay Area, Austin Texas and Newcastle UK. It’s a huge, fabulous event for DIY tech and craft and it provided some of the inspiration for the Too Cool For School Art & Science Fair. They are now accepting entries for Maker Faire Bay Area, May 22nd and 23rd, 2010 at the San Mateo County Event Center. This year’s focus is on Young Makers. Check it out!

The 8 Fest is coming! The 8 fest is a unique festival that presents all forms of small-gauge film: 8mm, Super 8 and 9.5mm, as well as works in installation, loops, and ‘proto-cinema devices’ like zoetropes…

With Rob Cruickshank, Vuk Dragojevic, Alexi Manis, John Porter, Lina Rodriguez and Alex Rogalski.

There’s just one more week to catch Rob Cruickshank‘s Selectric in the window at Toronto’s Fly Gallery. Selectric is a Kinetic sculpture based on a rotating type ball from an IBM Selectric typewriter, with stroboscopic illumination.

At Fly Gallery, 1172 Queen Street West, Toronto, until January 31st, 2010.
