These folks are great, check them out. Here’s what they do: The Society for Amateur Scientists helps ordinary people do extraordinary science. Since its founding in 1994, SAS has been the only non-profit research and education organization dedicated to helping people enrich their lives by following their passion to take part in scientific adventures of all kinds. We educate, advocate, kibitz and build networks of like-minded people to further the ethical pursuit of science and scientific research. SAS is not an organization of amateurs. Rather, we are an organization for amateurs. We are a unique consortium of thousands of professional and amateur scientists who seek to advance science and science literacy on all fronts. 27 January 2010

In recent years, many artists and scientists have come to appreciate the fertile potential of sharing information and strategies across disciplines. Art and science are both invested in the communication of knowledge and understanding. They are both theoretical, and they both have practical applications. Sometimes, both artists and scientists find themselves in unfamiliar and exciting territory, probing at new ways of knowing, and working to develop new ways to communicate that knowledge. Both art and science are important aspects of everyday life. Almost all creative projects require a little bit of both. Everyone with a passionate project will develop their own special hybrid expertise. The list of art and science links on this page represents a few of our favourite groups and organisations who engage in cultural cross-pollination. Send us a link for your art and science organisation, project or event! |
